A new wave of COVID-19 has swept Peru since the start of 2021. MSF has launched an intervention in support of the health authorities in Huaura province, north of Lima, aimed at taking some pressure off the regional hospital in Huacho (the provincial capital) by treating patients who need isolation and oxygen therapy, but whose state is not as critical as to need the services of Huacho hospital. On 14-15 May, @MSF teams worked with local health authorities to carry out covid-19 Pfizer vaccination in Huaura province, which is one of the worst-affected countries by the pandemic today. MSF staff triaged over 1,400 people and vaccinated around 800 people aged 70+.

“Há algo que quero te contar”: sobrevivendo à crise de violência sexual em Darfur, Sudão
"They raped me one after the other. "These are the words of a survivor of sexual violence in Haiti after seeing a psychologist, illustrated by @lalucien

Psychological support is essential to support healing and recovery.

Violence, displacement, and insecurity have become widespread in the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area in recent years, limiting any available medical and psychological support to aid in a survivor’s recovery. Timely medical attention is crucial for providing the most comprehensive care possible, including services like post-exposure HIV prophylaxis and contraception.

We hope that by telling survivors’ stories, sensitively and anonymously, we can draw much-needed attention to the challenges that survivors face in Haiti and beyond, as well as the concrete ways that people and organizations can offer support. One of the problems we see again and again is that while we can offer comprehensive health care, survivors cannot safely return to their regular lives and have no safe place to go.
